Developed by Peter Bellini, Truth Therapy is a method of spiritual life-coaching and formation that utilizes Christian doctrine, the names of God, scriptural affirmation and other spiritual disciplines along with the insights of Cognitive-Behavioral Theory/Therapy to teach Christians how to overcome life’s challenges and live victoriously live the Christian life. Truth Therapy teaches that our thought-life greatly determines who we are and what we become. The lies that we tell ourselves will imprison us in a world of helplessness, worthlessness and hopelessness. However, the truth will set us free. The truth is God’s Word found in Holy Scripture. Learning to monitor self-talk for cognitive distortions and to replace them with truth-based thoughts founded on Scripture and/or the findings of self-experimental logical empiricism can assist one growing as a disciple of Christ, as well as greatly increase one’s mental and physical health.
The truth is God’s perspective. The truth is how God sees us. We need to learn to renew our minds and our self-concept according to how God sees us.
Truth Therapy teaches intentional methodologies that enable us to employ self-coaching and self-leadership to teach our minds with God’s Word and be transformed by the Word’s power. Truth Therapy is somewhat of an intersection and unique blend between charismatic theology, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and contemplative spirituality. The book is good for personal devotion and/or small group study.
